Combining the transformative power of sport with a holistic approach to athlete wellbeing, Special Olympics Australia creates accessible sports training, coaching and competition opportunities so that people with an intellectual disability can reach their personal best, in sport and in life. Adelaide has been announced as the host city of the 11th Special Olympics Australia National Games. From 16-20 April 2018, 1,000 athletes with an intellectual disability will come together in Adelaide to demonstrate their sporting skills in 11 sports and 1 demonstration sport. The National Games is the culmination of a four year training and competition cycle and the qualifying event for athletes with an intellectual disability to represent Australia at the Special Olympics World Summer Games which are next scheduled for 2019. Events to be hosted are: Athletics Basketball Bocce Equestrian Football Golf Gymnastics Sailing Swimming Table Tennis (Demonstration) Tenpin Bowling Tennis
