Located within the Mt Coot-tha leisure and adventure precinct, the Planetarium is just five kilometres from the Brisbane Central Business District. Officially opened on 24 May 1978 by Brisbane City Council, the Planetarium is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2018. Over the past 40 years, the Planetarium has welcomed more than two million visitors and continues to be a must-visit destination for residents and visitors. Take a tour through the galaxy in the Planetarium’s Cosmic Skydome. There is a range of shows available, anything from cute animated features for younger kids, to interesting entertaining features on a wide range of subjects for older kids and adults. Get up close to incredible artefacts including asteroid fragments that are more than 4.5 billion years old, spacecraft models and one of the world’s best replicas of Neil Armstrong’s lunar spacesuit. The Planetarium is also now home to Skylore, a permanent display of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Astronomy.
