About Us

The Roy Emerson Museum is situated in Blackbutt, high on the Great Divide, approximately 180 kilometres North West of Brisbane and adjacent to the very popular Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. The building was the original Nukku State School where tennis great Roy Emerson completed his primary years. There are many photos and stories about Roy as well as the life size bronze statue situated at the Nukku Nook precinct. The museum houses a collection of photos and memorabilia from the days of local timber getting, early schooling, farming and the building of the railway. The old Nukku Siding, with refurbishment almost finished, takes pride of place behind the museum. They are presently laying track in the hope they can access a carriage, completing the stage, so to speak. There are many old videos to sit and watch; the timber industry, rail building, tennis matches from last century and the restoration of the severely, flood damaged Taromeo Cemetery. Tag-along-tours are another feature conducted by this band of passionate members with visits to Taromeo Station, Jessie's Well, Hill 60 and local Bora and Kippa rings. The museum is open 9.30am to 3.30pm daily and all visitors are made most welcome.
