OzSkinScan is a Skin Cancer Clinic in South East Melbourne dedicated to early detection and treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Our focus is on early detection of skin cancers using digital dermoscopy for accurate diagnosis and serial digital follow up and long term monitoring. At OzSkinScan Clinic we use the latest digital dermoscopy system: the MoleMax High Definition, for all skin checks of pigmented or non-pigmented lesions.This way we will lower the need to biopsy benign lesions. After dermoscopic examination, suspicious lesions are either biopsied or if less dysplastic looking, digitally recorded and stored for short term observation, usually 3 to 6 months to monitor for any changes. Lesions that change in this interval should undergo diagnostic biopsy for histopathological evaluation. For lesions that do not change in the 3 to 6 month period we recommend routine yearly follow-up, as a small percentage of superficial spreading melanomas change slowly over time. Digital dermoscopy offers several advantages over the hand-held dermatoscopes: no need to use oil or alcohol immersion fluids on the skin, which makes for a much faster consultation, easy and quick follow up of multiple pigmented skin lesions over a short or long term period, as well as high capacity digital storage and transfer of images. All minor biopsies are done on the day of the consultation with only the excisional biopsies performed at another appointment due to time requirements.
