Dr Andrew Kan

Dr Andrew Kan is an experienced fertility specialist with a growing reputation throughout Australasia, due to his understanding and care for patients of different nationalities. He is highly regarded and colleagues establishing IVF units in Asia readily seek his advice. Dr Kan's research interests reflect his personal approach to tailoring treatment to each patient's clinical and personal needs. For example, he has been examining the effect of ethnicity on fertility for many years and is seeing trends in social and clinical aspects emerge. Dr Kan also understands and respects many patients desire to start with the least invasive and most effective fertility treatments and as such he is researching the optimal treatment progression (including the controversial low dose, lite or mild stimulation IVF) and age-related response to IVF, for example women in their early twenties and late forties is considered extreme examples of candidature for IVF. Andrew graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 1988, before completing his training in obstetrics and gynaecology. He then worked in London for three years in Guys, St Thomas' and Lister Hospitals, to further his expertise in infertility. Dr Kan returned to Sydney to complete his Master of Medicine (Reproductive Health and Genetics) and his sub-specialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI), and now maintains an appointment as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at The University of New South Wales. He is a Visiting Medical Officer at Ryde Hospital, and his special areas of interest include polycystic ovarian syndrome, male infertility, alternative and Chinese medicine and treatment of patients needing donor sperm or oocytes. Dr Kan also speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.
